Resistor Color Code Formula

4-Band Resistor:

Resistance = (Band 1 × 10 + Band 2) × Multiplier
5-Band Resistor:

Resistance = (Band 1 × 100 + Band 2 × 10 + Band 3) × Multiplier
6-Band Resistor:

Resistance = (Band 1 × 100 + Band 2 × 10 + Band 3) × Multiplier

The sixth band specifies the temperature coefficient.
Minimum Resistance:

Rmin = R × (1 − tolerance)
Maximum Resistance:

Rmax = R × (1 + tolerance)

Example: 4.7 kΩ Resistor

A 4.7 kΩ resistor with ±5% tolerance uses the following 4-band color code:

Yellow = 4
Violet = 7
Red = ×100
Gold = ±5%

Resistance = 47 × 100

Resistance = 4,700 Ω = 4.7 kΩ
