EasyCalculator.org develops and provides RailSpeed - Train GPS Speed (“RailSpeed”, “the app”, “we”, or “us”). This privacy policy explains how the Android app accesses, uses, stores and shares information.

This policy applies specifically to RailSpeed. The EasyCalculator.org website has its own privacy policy describing website services.

1. Location permission and use

RailSpeed requests location permission while you use the app to display your position, measure GPS speed and record trips.

Precise location is required for speed measurement and trip recording. If you grant approximate location, the map can display an approximate position, but speed and trip features may be limited.

Tracking and trip recording pause when you leave the app or lock your screen. RailSpeed does not request background-location permission.

You can deny or revoke location permission through Android Settings. Features that require location will then be unavailable or limited.

2. Trip information stored on your device

When you tap Start trip, RailSpeed creates a local draft containing the trip’s start time, route coordinates, distance, active duration, measured duration and maximum speed.

Draft checkpoints are saved approximately every 10 seconds and when you pause or save a trip. You can resume a recovered draft or finish it using End & Save.

End & Save stores the completed trip and a screenshot of the displayed map in app-private storage on your device. Map screenshots include map attribution.

History retains the most recent 20 completed trips. Older entries and their associated map images are automatically removed.

RailSpeed does not upload saved trip records or route coordinates to an EasyCalculator.org server.

3. Data retention and deletion

You can clear completed trip history and its map images from History.

To remove all locally stored app information, including drafts, settings and cached map tiles, clear RailSpeed’s storage through Android Settings or uninstall the app. Android backup is disabled for RailSpeed.

Information you have already shared outside the app may remain with the recipient or the service you selected.

4. Maps and third-party services

RailSpeed loads OpenStreetMap tiles from https://tile.openstreetmap.org over HTTPS.

Map requests disclose your IP address, application identifier and requested map areas to the tile service. Requested map areas may indicate an approximate location or an area along a viewed route. RailSpeed does not upload the saved trip record to the tile service.

RailSpeed uses Google Play services to access the device location API. Google Play services may process information under Google’s terms and privacy policy:

Downloaded map tiles are cached locally to reduce repeated network requests. RailSpeed does not download offline map areas. Viewing a saved route may request map tiles for that route’s area.

5. Sharing

The Share link feature opens Android’s share chooser with the app’s store link.

If you choose to share a saved trip, RailSpeed sends the selected trip summary to the app or recipient you choose. Trip information may contain sensitive location details. Sharing happens only when you initiate it.

The receiving app or service handles shared information under its own privacy policy.

6. Settings, accounts, advertising and analytics

RailSpeed stores your theme preference, speed unit and meter scale locally on your device.

The version covered by this policy does not include accounts, advertisements or app analytics.

RailSpeed does not sell your personal or sensitive data.

7. Contacting us

If you email [email protected], we receive your email address and the information you include. We use this information to respond to your request and retain correspondence only as needed to handle the request or meet applicable legal obligations.

Please avoid sending trip routes or other sensitive information unless needed for your support request. You may contact us to request deletion of support correspondence, subject to applicable retention obligations.

8. Security

Trip records and map screenshots are stored in app-private storage. Map tile requests use HTTPS.

No electronic storage or transmission method is completely secure. Your device’s security and any services you choose for sharing also affect the protection of your information.

9. GPS accuracy

GPS speed and distance are estimates. Tunnels, weak signals and device limitations can cause inaccurate or missing readings.

RailSpeed is not intended for safety-critical railway operation or navigation.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app’s features or data practices change. The revised policy will be published on this page and made available through the app, with an updated date.

If a future version introduces advertising, analytics, accounts or additional data services, we will update the relevant disclosures and obtain permissions or consent where required.
